Welcome to IHH
The Story of IHH
The India Humanitarian Hub (IHH) was formally initiated on 19 March 2019 with a bold vision to strengthen localisation and bring local and national actors to the forefront of humanitarian action in India. IHH emerged from a shared understanding that communities and organisations closest to crises must be empowered to lead responses—bridging the long-standing gap between local and national actors and international organisations within the humanitarian system.
Rooted in the principles of localisation and collective action, the India Humanitarian Hub serves as a collaborative platform where diverse local, national, and international organisations come together to strengthen a more inclusive, responsive, and resilient humanitarian system in India. Built on mutual trust, shared learning, and recognition of local leadership, the Hub enables meaningful collaboration, timely gap-filling responses, and systems-level dialogue that place communities at the centre of humanitarian action.
Today, IHH stands as a bridge between affected communities, humanitarian support mechanisms, and immediate gap-filling responses. With over 15 member organisations spanning local, national, and international spheres, the Hub champions systems thinking, shared learning, and coordinated action to deliver meaningful impact on the ground.
Through knowledge exchange, innovation, and locally appropriate financing mechanisms, IHH continues to strengthen the capacities of national and sub-national actors—ensuring humanitarian responses are timely, context-driven, and aligned with community priorities, and bringing decision-making closer to where it matters most.

Achievements
- IHH moves towards building the capacity of members and creating a knowledge hub.
- We expanded our collective strength by inducting new member organizations into the India Humanitarian Hub, bringing in fresh perspectives and broadening our reach. Alongside this, we developed and adopted a formal governance structure, laying a strong foundation for transparent, inclusive, and accountable decision-making. We also fostered greater collaboration among members by creating clear processes and shared priorities, ensuring alignment towards our common humanitarian goals.
